I had been looking forward to going to Creamfields 2014 and the time was finally here! With the weather forecast for showers the obligatory festival wellies and anorak had been packed and I was ready for a weekend of dance music and festival mud along with 70,000 other revellers.
Having arrived at the campsite and found a space amongst the sea of tents. We then set out through the fields of mud slipping and sliding away to join the crowds heading towards the booming noise of the main arena
Headlining at Creamfields this year were Avicii, Calvin Harris and Deadmau5 as well two sets from this year’s number one world DJ Hardwell, attracting thousands of fans to come to what is billed as the world's leading dance music festival!
Showtek were on the north stage playing a number of there hits including their highest chart single “Booyah” which got the crowd pumping. Not even the showers could deter people from jumping up and down and having a good time.
While later on Afrojack on the south stage rose to the challenge of following Martin Garrix who had just put the crowd into a frenzie playing his smash hits “Animals” and “Wizard”. Afrojack showing off their efforts of being in the studio for the last two weeks getting the crowd moving to some new material as well as playing remixes of their most popular top ten hits “Ten feet tall” and “The Spark”. Utilising the big screens to show off some amazing graphics and generating a tremendous atmosphere as the crowd sang along with every line.
In the evening the two main headlining acts were Avicii and Deadmau5. I had heard rave reviews of Deadmau5 from fellow campers and he took the stage wearing his signature mouse head. The set was quite chilled. However, after a while I wanted to find something a bit more upbeat so headed off to the South Stage to see Avicii.
This decision did not disappoint. For me Avicii was one of the highlights of Creamfields 2014. Playing several of his most famous tunes, including “Hey Brother”, “Levels” and his number one “Wake me up”. The great music combined with the full works of special effects including streamers, lasers, pyros and fireworks got the crowd going. So by the end everyone was singing along with the lyrics displayed on the two massive screens either side of the stage.
With the main headline acts over the party atmosphere was still going strong with late night revellers deciding on who to see next. Having refuelled with chips from one of many food stalls located in the central hub I headed of the Pryda Tent to see Eric Prydz. After a rather long intro he got the tent moving and partway through his set was joined behind the decks by fellow Swede Sebastian Ingrosso.
Caught one final act for the night Annie Mac who took to the stage in her own arena Annie Mac Presents (AMP). After a rather slow start she got the crowd onside and kept everyone entertained well over her scheduled set time and into the early hours of the morning. So with my head full of music it was time to call it a night and take up the challenge of trying to find my black tent in the dark.
After a rather bleary eyed Sunday morning breakfast I traversed the gauntlet of mud to head back to the main arena. This time off to see DJ EZ who has been hailed by the music industry as “the best” UK Garage DJ to ever grace a set of decks. True to form DJ EZ had the tent completely under his control, even managing to get the whole tent sitting on the floor at one point.
In the early afternoon Australia Twins NERVO took to the North stage and not even the dark clouds rolling in could put a dampener on their set. Playing a crowd pleasing set of tunes with everyone jumping and singing along to their track with Nicky Romero “Like Home”.
With the information being announced on the big screens that Tiesto was unable to make it to Creamfields due to flight cancellation from LA it was clear the main act of the night was going to be Calvin Harris.
With revellers chanting his name from the start, he kicked off with his number one hit “Under Control”. The crowd was electric singing along with nearly every tune. However, half an hour into his set the unthinkable happened the show was stopped temporarily as several revellers had climbed the speaker rig. The temporary stop in the show was filled with chants of we love you Calvin. Soon the show was back underway with the crowd singing along to another of his top ten hits “Feel so close” Calvin continued to play mixes of his most popular hits with the crowd dancing and screaming along. Finishing his set with his summertime anthem “Summer” as fireworks were set of in the background bringing my adventures at Creamfields 2014 to a close.
