Married, lovely wife, Margaret, daughters Jodi and Joy, Cheryl, Jade, Grand Daughter Gemma, Sons Daryl, they all make me proud, and the self exiled (his loss only), Scott.
Music history started back in the late 70’s when the mobile Disco scene was kicking off. Learned the DJ trade from one Jim Laidlaw of Rainbow Heart Discos, folk will remember Rainbow Heart from the Deanbank, Gorebridge days on a Sunday. Went on to form STARS ‘N’ STRIPES Discos which played every Miners Club and venue in Midlothian, there was hardly a marriage or engagement in the 80’s that did not have Stars ‘N’ Stripes. Christmas at the Morris Club was special, as was the Roses Club on a Thursday. Went on to play residencies in Clubs Annabel’s in Edinburgh and Coasters Arena. Started to help out at Radio Forth’s “Transistor Boogie” with Graham Jackson where I worked along side Tom Wilson. There are too many good times and ‘firsts’ to list through that five or six year period, meeting just about every MAJOR artist in the Soul and Disco era at that time through Forth. Went on to assist Tom Wilson on Stepping Out on a Saturday night this was huge. At that time I also managed a couple of major Edinburgh Nightclubs. Went on to have my own Clubs at the Calton Studios, Edinburgh’s first ‘rave’ all nighter venue, Music Box where all the Forth Live gigs went down and the FAMOUS ZEN in Dalkeith. What a venue that was !
It was only time before I had to have my own record … so along came STEPPIN’ OUT RECORDS in Newtongrange. Along with some GREAT folks Steppin’ Out turned into the UK’s TOP Euro Dance label. Four National top 40 hits 8 Dance number 1’s and so on. Technocat (Tom Wilson), DJ Scott, Outer Rhythm, Red Rhythm who are still going and are now big time to name a few.
Got sickened by a rip off merchant at this time and gave it all up and moved on leaving music behind for a gap of 5 years until John Ritchie came along one evening when I was in my taxi and now. …………………………….
