EIFF: Spread Review

By Chris Mackrell - Posted on 23 June 2009

Well after a long gander at the Edinburgh Film Festival guide and speaking to other festival goers last night I decided on seeing my first film, Spread.

Director: David Mackenzie
Cast: Ashton Kutcher, Anne Heche, Margarita Levieva, Sebastian Stan, Maria Conchita Alonso, Hart Bochner, Rachel Blanchard
Next showing:24 June, 21:00 at Cineworld 3

Directed by festival regular David Mackenzie the film starts with some swooshy camera work and a guide from Nikki (played by Ashton Kutcher) on how to pick out and seduce rich and powerful women in Hollywood and 'sponge' off them for a few months. The film soon becomes so much more as you watch Nikki's plans crumble around him, most of this due to him meeting Heather (played by Margarita Levieva) a woman who can play the game just as well as him and helps him to see the error of his ways. Or does she....

With some great acting from Kutcher and Levievaand some laugh out loud moments, I really enjoyed the film. The twists in the plot and the humour kept me going although at the end the film did seem a bit dragged out.

I would highly recommend the film to any fans of the Director as this is his first Hollywood film and well worth a watch. Any admirers of Ashton Kutcher will love the film as he spends about 90% of the film with his top off!

Overall well worth the watch, for my first film of this years festival a great pick.
