Tonight on the late show its the first Sunday of July so it's the Full Monty and
I will play
Sergei Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto #2 in C minor in full
Written and first performed by the composer in 1934 in Baltimore and conducted by Leopold Stokowski, you'll remember this from the 1945 film, Brief Encounter (or, perhaps not) which was based on Noel Cowards one act play, Still Life. This film regularly appears on Top 100 British Film listings and was even voted #2 by critics as recently as 2005 !!!
The concerto itself consistently appears in the top 5 of a certain commercial classical radio stations chart.
Indeed, it has done since the inception of that top 300 chart.
Quite a feat. So it clearly strikes a chord (forgive the pun) with the UK public. And so it should.
On the General Playlist we heard...

Brahms - Symphony #4 in E, Allegro
