Dalkeith Thistle v Coldstream 1st August 2018 - match report

The Jags welcomed Coldstream to Kings Park on Tuesday night, the first competitive meeting between the sides (a statement that we can trot out a few times this season) and emerged victorious with a record scoreline from our time in "senior football".

Dalkeith were back to an almost full strength squad and it was evident from the KO that the visitors young side were going to be in for a tough time.

The opening goal came on 7 minutes when Blake Wales showed great skill to beat his man on the wing and lay the ball on a plate for Paul Tansey to tap in from a couple of yards.

The second goal wasn't long in coming either when trialist Dean Apicella found space and time to drill a low drive past the Coldstream keeper.

It was all one way traffic and the third goal came on 34 minutes from Ryan McQueenie, the Jags man volleying home from a corner kick. Just a minute later it was 4-0 when McQueenie notched his second from the penalty spot after Tansey and been unceremoniously scythed down by the Streamers keeper.

Just before halftime it could have been 5-0 when Ross Connell hit the underside of the bar before the ball was cleared to safety.

To their credit the young Coldstream side never gave up and un 57 minutes pulled a goal back when John Hall sliced the ball into his own net whilst attempting to clear a dangerous cross. However, just a minute later the four goal deficit was restored when the Streamers center half did likewise under pressure from Dean Apicella.

The Coldstream defense was under sever pressure and on 62 minutes Duncan Muir capped a fine display when he slammed home a low drive from the edge of the box to make it 6-1.

The Jags were on easy street and coasting along now looking like they could score at will and only a couple of dubious off-side calls denied them from inflicting further damage.

Then on 85 minutes Paul Tansey notched his second of the match slotting home from a tight angle and on 86 minutes Dean Apicella also scored his second when presented with a clear shot at goal.

Both strikers had chances to notch their hat tricks in the closing minutes but at full time the score remained 8-1.
