Stoptober is an annual event encouraging smokers to quit during October. The month-long campaign is based on the statistic that people who are able to stop smoking for 28 days are five times more likely to permanently quit.

Various aids are available to help people quit smoking. These include skin patches, chewing gum, inhalers, tablets and sprays. Hypnotherapy is another option.

Last week, Alan spoke to Stephen McMurray, an Edinburgh-based hypnotherapist, about the benefits of hypnotherapy in helping people to break the smoking habit.
