5th June - Arniston Rangers v Whitehill Welfare - Derek Hall's Report

Arniston Rangers 1-2 Whitehill Welfare
A glorious day and a healthy crowd (great to be able to say that again) as Newbyres Park saw a Midlothian derby with Arniston hosting Whitehill and both clubs looking to a have better EOS season than last time out. Just some quick highlights today with normal reports back online once the competitive stuff begins.
The home side started brightly and took the lead after 10 minutes when Dyett cut the ball back from the right of the penalty area and Ramsey fired home left footed from around 15 yards with a really nice finish.
After 36 minutes, Watterson of Arniston was cautioned by referee Danny Graves for catching Wilson with a flailing elbow.
The equaliser arrived after 57 minutes when a Hopkinson drive was parried by the diving McQueen but the ball fell to McIntosh and, after missing a decent chance just a few minutes earlier, the striker made no mistake this time as he clipped the rebound home from six yards out.
After 74 minutes Ramsey went close with a header for Arniston which was held by keeper Capes but Whitehill moved straight upfield and within 15 seconds of the chance at the other end, Walker drove home with a beautiful low strike from around 25 yards which looked a goal from the moment it was struck.
A good workout for both sides who will be delighted to finally get some match fitness into the legs and will be looking forward to more games coming thick and fast in the next few weeks.
