Our local 5 Junior Football teams here in Midlothian

In response to a comment on Facebook about the support given to Musselburgh Athletic, the East Lothian football club, about giving more airtime than our local 5 Junior teams here in Midlothian.

Our reporter, Ryan Kelly has over the season not only talks about Musselburgh Athletic, but has came live from many other games, not only that, talked about the scores, fixtures etc, both on air and live in the studio on both programmes. Now remember, Musselburgh Athletic play against our local teams and he has reported from them.

This is not about Ryan, it is about Local Sport

On Black Diamond FM we have 2 sports programmes, on a Wednesday nigh, Talking Sport 6pm-8pm and Saturday Sports Roundup 3pm-6pm.

Both programmes have featured reports live from football games both home and away on many an occasion from our 5 local Junior football teams, in all types of weather conditions.

The 5 local Junior teams are Newtongrange Star, Arniston Rangers, Dalkeith Thistle, Bonnyrigg Rose, and Penicuik Athletic.

This season our reporters have been
Newtongrange Star - Stevie Tait
Arniston Rangers - Alan Walker
Dalkeith Thistle - Craig Main
Bonnyrigg Rose - Charlie Kirkwood
Penicuik Athletic - Jim Dick

I must thank these reporters for their contribution to our sports programmes here on Black Diamond FM over the last season.

Now to the point made earlier and the response.

1. Every one of the 5 junior football teams have had an equal opportunity to do a live interview or recorded, live link to their games at any time during the season.

2. Reporters have been asked to reply before games if they wish time on any of the two programmes.

3. Contact with our local 5 reporters during the live programmes, has been made or tried for a live link up.

3. Managers have been approached and interviews done

4.Supporters have been approached and interviews done

5. Any fundraising event that the clubs have had or coming up, we have in most cases promoted.

6. Attended games and events of the 5 Junior football club, with interviews and promotion of the same.

We rely on the input from the local 5 Junior clubs through our reporters or other supporters of the 5 teams.

The opportunity has been taken up by not just Musselburgh Athletic and Boness United, which was not mentioned, and these two teams have seen the opportunity available to them using our Local Community Radio station Black Diamond FM to promote their club and have shown that by their input to programmes.

I would like to see and hear more from our local 5 Junior football teams like you.

Have your say, become a reporter for your local team, one of the Local 5 next season and join our excellent team here in Midlothian.
